A Drift-Distant Prayer

You are thin

Of fuschia skin

Round rose-pinking

All squint-high

Soaring

Your tight cheeked thinness

A drawn down struggle

Of my embattled

Puff hard

Breaths.

Steel cloud

Turned aside

By sky-bowl clearness

You carry

Giftings

The circled sheepish sorrys

Of births and handfasts

Rings and weddings

Proposals, then

Prayers.

Hard-held

In the reflecting

Our many little lives

All shown in satin

Siding,

You are tight bunched

Wish-high helium

All laughter

Tears and

Grief.

I know you

I live you;

You seek the burn oblivious

Hard-strived for

Heaven

Without strings,

Limits broken

You are

Wildling

Star-skied.

I watch

Wishing only

Free unbroken journeys

Dizzying in glory

May you be dazzled

And forever wondrous

Earth circling,

Spinning

Sun high.

I cry you

Unthinking

A prayer composed

Perhaps of heartbeats

As I ask a thousand gods and

Demons

For boon and bond

Do not end;

Unfalling

Eternal – hold.

To disallow

To ban

Any earth-fall pinprick

And make the bang-held death

Verboten;

Balloon being another word

For survival

Or even

Hope.
